Edinson Cavani should look to leave PSG

FBL-FRA-LCUP-PARIS-SAINT-ETIENNEWhen PSG parted with £45 million to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli, they were signing one of Europe’s most valuable players and one of the world’s deadliest strikers. However since signing for the oil rich giants, he has been played on the left wing so to accommodate Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

After becoming the most expensive player in the history of French football, Cavani will have expected to have been the focal point of the PSG side, but instead has been shunted out to the wing. Despite this he still boasts a very impressive goal scoring record, having scored 69 goals in 120 games in all competitions for the French champions.

With PSG already 21 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table, the Uruguayan may choose to test himself in a more competitive league. In recent days, Cavani has been linked with a move to Manchester United, something he may wish to consider.

Even though the 28-year-old does boast an impressive goal scoring record in Ligue 1, he has never recreated his form in Serie A with Napoli. In three seasons in Italy’s top division, he scored 78 goals, he has only 44 over two and a half seasons in France.

At 28 years of age, Cavani should be reaching the peak of his powers, and should be playing week-in-week-out in his best in his best position. There is the possibility that Ibrahimovic will leave the club in the summer, but even if he does, PSG may choose to spend big and sign another striker. A move away from the club would certainly see him become the first-choice striker for his new team.

With Louis van Gaal’s side struggling to score goals and in need of a consistent striker, it could be the perfect move for Cavani. He has been linked with a move to England in the past, but sides have been rumoured to have been priced out of a possible transfer. However now with a fee of around £40 million reported to be enough to tempt PSG into a sale, he is certainly a player in Manchester United’s price range.

If Cavani wants to make a move from PSG, now is the time to make it. If he becomes available, there would be a number of big teams interested in bringing him in.
